All right, here is the long explanation of the ôwhy cant I train all three charactersö and ôwhy training take so damn longö questions that people just wont stop asking.
Simply stating that other MMOÆs only let you train one at a time is only a small part of the issue. That just points out that CCP is not taking away something that other MMOÆs provide. It is not the reason.
When you are creating an MMO, you are looking for ways to provide (perhaps even force) interaction between players (hence the ômultiplayerö in MMO). Otherwise you just have a big single player game with a monthly fee. You need other players with skills you do not have to achieve goals in the game. One of the biggest ways of doing this is by making people chose a class (or whatever you call it) at character creation. The skills, abilities, forces, perks, etc are limited forever more with that character by your choice at creation. EVE does not have this. Any character can learn any skill (eventually). The way EVE forces you to specialize is with the painfully long training times to really master a skill. It is impossible for any character to truly master every aspect of the game. There are characters with about 130 million skill points and have almost nothing in combat related skills. I have over 50 million, with zilch in mining, research or manufacturing. When I need a new ship, I buy from a player who has specialized in manufacturing. That player has likely bought minerals from someone who is a mining god (cough, Chribba).
This also helps new players. If a new player specializes in something that a corp needs (maybe ewar frigate), then they can fairly quickly be a useful member. If you could train alts, then many players would train an eway specialist alt, and the corp would have no need of the new player.
If you reduced training times or enabled training on all three characters on an account, this would go away. We would all have an alt that is a master miner, master manufacturer, or whatever skill set we needed. This would radically (and not for the good) change the game. Remember, while it would be cool if only you had some ability, everyone will have it, and the game will drastically change.
The ever present reply of ôCCP are just greedy *****s who want us to pay for multiple accountsö, that is truly disingenuous. There is no real need to have a second account so you can train an alt. If you CHOOSE to have a second account, fine. If you then CHOOSE to pay RL money for that account, fine. With 2-4 afternoons of level four mission running you can easily pay for that second account with ISK. How many MMOÆs let you pay for your accounts with in game money?
